User Testing
User testing varies greatly by project but always provides valuable information. Testing helps identifies issues in the designs and receive feedback directly from users at a point where it can still be incorporated into the design.
Concept Testing
Red Balloon
As we generated a new concept for a social network, we decided to test the concept and see how people reacted to the idea. Building the actual application wasn’t in the scope of our project, so we build an analog prototype that let us test our idea.
Through the testing feedback we identified that there were opportunities to:
- Set up preferences and priorities when you create your account.
- Filter or identify personal stories clearly in order to maintain engagement.
- Promote the app around those ‘in between’ moments.
- Clearly establish the time each activity will take.
- Provide ‘certainty within uncertainty’ through better user understanding.
- Use the network as an educational tool.
- Develop this idea further.
Usability Testing
Leveraging Multiculturality: Product Testing
I led a team in the development of a product that could leverage multiculturality for better academic performance. We designed and built the prototype of the game (including the packaging, branding and instructions of use) and invited a group of students and professor to test it. Their feedback allowed us to improve the content and design of the product.
Inside Looking IN: Capicú Service Testing
Some services require a longer time to really test its success, which limits the scope of user testing. For my thesis, I developed an online platform and service. I built the site and sent it out to possible users with an accompanying questionnaire. The questions were meant to test user’s understanding of the concept but also their experience and the usability of the actual website. This arrangement allowed me to test the design remotely but with the actual users.
